In the U.S. state of Missouri, the community of Sikeston may be found in both the southern part of Scott County and the northern part of New Madrid County. Although it is located just to the north of the region known as the “Missouri Bootheel,” many people in the area believe Sikeston to be a part of that region.

  1. Sikeston is conveniently located along Interstate 55, Interstate 57, and U.S.
  2. Route 60; as a result, it is not far from the geographic center of the route that connects St.
  3. Louis and Memphis, and it is just three hours away from Nashville.
  4. John Sikes, who was the city’s founder in 1860, is honored with the naming of the location.

It has a total population of 41,143 people and serves as the county seat of Scott County as well as the primary city of the Sikeston Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Scott County. It was the fourth-most populated city in Missouri’s 8th Congressional district as of the 2010 census, behind Cape Girardeau, Rolla, and Poplar Bluff but just ahead of Farmington.

  • On U.S. Highway 61, approximately one mile south of U.S. Highway 60, was where Fairview School could be found.

  • Pheasant Valley School was established in the early 1920s and operated on State Highway H until it was merged with Blodgett in 1922.
  • The Sand Prairie School operated sometime in the years 1912 and 1950 and was situated close to County Highway 446.
  • Around 1910 until around 1940, students attended the Stringer School, which was situated close to State Highway Y.
  • Tanner School was established in the vicinity of the village of Tanner around the year 1909 and remained there until it was destroyed by fire in 1947 and amalgamated with Sikeston School around the year 1948.
  • White Oak School operated from 1909 through 1921 and was located on Scott County Highway 524. In 1922, the school was absorbed by Blodgett.
