The clothing school of thinking is where I came from, and in that school, we prewash anything that can be washed. Yes, JC Penny formerly called this building home, but what changed after that? Because Hamilton is so remote from any other town or city, residents may wonder where they may find employment in order to put food on the table and a roof over their heads.
Even with all the criticism that the Doan family has received, it appears to me that they have done quite a lot to put Hamilton back on the map.

I place my orders with them online, and they also handle my long-arm quilting needs. The quality of the customer service has been consistently excellent. I learned how to quilt with the help of those people’s free videos on YouTube (as I live in a rural Upstate NY area with limited resources).

Indeed, the delivery service was somewhat slower than normal during the COVID.
Did it occur to you that every day, shipments of fabric require a fully loaded tractor trailer to leave that store? Especially considering the obligatory lock-in and lock-down, that is a significant amount of fabric and notions.

Shopping with MSQ online is something I would strongly suggest, and one day I hope to be able to visit the stores in person and get a better look at how everything is run. It makes me sad when other people disparage those who founded a business that is now prospering despite the fact that it was begun in a little town in the United States.

Therefore, I organized our trip such that it would center around a visit. Although we were based in Kansas City, we made two separate trips up to Hamilton to see family. The town has more than simply a large quilting business; the JC Penny house and library display as well as the Quilt Museum are both noteworthy trips to make while in town.

I had high hopes that we would be able to speak with the proprietor of MSQC, but alas, she was out of town. Despite this, every member of staff was cordial and interesting to talk to. Anyone who has never been there before should be aware that it is comprised of a total of 13 distinct “businesses,” one of which is called Man’s Land and has leather recliners and large-screen TVs.

The good news is that you can reach them all on foot. There is also a brewery in town, which we made sure to visit, and we came away quite satisfied with our experience there. They offer a terrible online customer care experience. In point of fact, I believe they should completely cease doing it. My bad for falling for their large weekend sale advertisement on Facebook; this is the second time I’ve purchased from them. Visited while on vacation in the year 2021.
Two nights were spent in the RV park in Hamilton.
Just wandered aimlessly through the stores for the better part of the day.
Although I wasn’t looking to buy fabric, I liked perusing the available options and taking in the “eye candy.” Purchased a couple yards of it.

One issue that can’t be changed is that you have to pay at each store, which means that if you use a credit card, you can end up with many charges. Cash is the best option, in my opinion. The visit to the historic schoolhouse that was just a few blocks away was the real highlight of the day.

I had no idea that the town was so quaint and compact, and Jenny Doan was just as pleasant as she has been every time we’ve crossed paths in the past. We had a wonderful day, although I wish there had been more demonstrations; perhaps it would have been better if they were dispersed around the various stores rather than requiring customers to leave the shops in order to attend them.

It’s a must do experience for all quilters.
There are several shops, all of them are within walking distance.
Each store’s employees exuded warmth and were eager to assist customers.
Even though I observed a tour bus, I never had the impression that the stores were overly crowded.
It’s possible that I lucked out since I went on a Friday instead of a Saturday, when it’s likely that Saturdays are busier.

Is Nancy’s Notions still in business?

The Beaver Dam institution known as Nancy’s Notions, which offered sewing materials, has been acquired by a new owner. Tacony Corporation, a company based in Missouri, acquired Nancy’s Notions in 2003. On Thursday, Tacony Corporation made an announcement regarding the sale of the Nancy’s online retail business and related assets to Missouri Star Quilt Company, with the sale becoming effective on May 27 for an amount that was not disclosed.

The retail location of Nancy’s Notions in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, was shuttered during the summer of 2018, which resulted in the cancellation of the yearly sewing weekend event as well as the laying off of staff. In a news statement, the Chief Executive Officer of Tacony, Kristi Tacony Humes, stated that the company had been seeking for a strategic partner that has the required resources and experience to assist in bringing Nancy’s Notions to the next level.

We believe that the success and expertise that Missouri Star Quilt Company has had in the quilting and sewing sectors will present Nancy’s Notions with a one-of-a-kind chance for expansion as a result of the acquisition of Missouri Star Quilt Company.

According to a press release, the Missouri Star Quilt Company has one of the largest selections of precut fabrics anywhere in the world, ships thousands of packages all over the world each day, and maintains a popular YouTube channel with quilting tutorials, in addition to having a tourist site headquarters.

In 1979, Nancy Zieman established Nancy’s Notions, and for many years, she was the host of the popular sewing program “Sewing With Nancy” on the public television station PBS. Zieman died in 2017. On the northern side of Beaver Dam is a facility that is 100,000 square feet in size and is home to a business that provides materials for sewing, quilting, and embroidery.

The retail establishment had to close its doors the year before due to the intense level of competition. Amanda Kosloski stated that she was one of the many employees that were laid off from Nancy’s Nations in March on the same day that Governor Tony Evers issued a stay-at-home order. She was curious as to whether or not the employee meeting was about whether or not Nancy’s would continue to be in business.

She started at Nancy’s as a fabric cutter and quickly began learning everything else there was to know from that point on, pitching in wherever she was needed, even helping to correct inventory. She worked there for more than five years. “It focused a lot on the importance of family.

Everyone was quite kind to one another, “— I quote her.
I really enjoyed my time working there.” Kosloski stated that she is still looking for a new job to replace the one she had at Nancy’s.
Michael Mifsud, the Chief Executive Officer of Missouri Star, said in a statement that the firm is thrilled to add the Nancy’s Notions brand and that the company intends to respect Zieman’s legacy and introduce her love of sewing to new consumers.
