How did Ellis County get its name?
On February 26, 1867, Ellis County was established as a county. George Ellis, who served as the first lieutenant of the Twelfth Kansas Infantry, is honored with the naming of this location. The Walker Army Airfield was constructed to the north of Walker in the year 1942.
